I’ll fess up right now. I have not written a blog—for my website—in some time. I don’t have much of an excuse other than I have been working on a number of interesting projects for various clients and seem to be using up my creative power. Which is great, because I really love working with people on their writing and documentation projects. However, it does mean that I have to constantly preserve my creative strength. Or… not! As, I think I’ve found a solution.
Yesterday, I thought to myself, I could take a few creative breaks. So, that is what I did. I jumped on my mountain bike and went for a mind-calming pedal. Well, it turns out my mind was not calm at all. About 20 minutes into the forest, I started to have really creative ideas on how to solve writing blocks that I had come across. I promptly pulled out my phone and started to dictate to Siri. And, Siri faithfully typed out some of my best lines for a marketing campaign that I’ve been working on.
Suddenly, I realized that I wasn’t taking a break from being creative. I was taking a break to get creative. Thrilled at my new discovery, I started looking up and seeing colours and views that I sometimes take for granted, here in Whistler. I just had to pedal to Rainbow Park to appreciate an unobstructed view. The ride back to my home office was long, but absolutely worth every pedal stroke. Now… what to do for today’s creative break… hmm?
